I performed a handfasting ceremony this weekend at the Sunday River Covered Bridge. I thought it was a really nice touch to the ceremony and hence the saying "to tie the knot!" And the cord used is a really nice keepsake of their special day.
Summer time is always a popular time for weddings and this year was no different. The date of my first big wedding of the summer I was also scheduled to participate in the "Warrior Dash", a 5k run/obstacle course in Barre, MA. The wedding was scheduled for 2:00 in Methuen so it made my dash a little more urgent, but something I was definitely looking forward to. My commitment that day was of course to the happy couple but also to the children who are patients at St. Jude's Hospital - which I referred to as Kathy's Warriors! I raised nearly $500 for them. Equally important was making it through the dash without breaking or spraining anything (think boot camp, crawling through mud and trenches, scaling 15 ft. walls - straight up, jumping through fire and crawling through what felt like cement, just to name a few of the obstacles!) My last challenge was making it back home to get the remainder of mud off of me and get ready for the wedding! I'm happy to say, I completed without so much as a scratch and made it to the wedding on time! Great day!
I've had weddings at some beautiful locals as well, Halibut Point in Rockport, Maudsley State Park in Newbury, Essex Convention Center (don't let the name fool you, it's gorgeous!) in Essex, Chandler Hovey Park in Marblehead, the Steven's Estate in North Andover and the Stevens Coolidge Estate (in the gardens), North Andover - just to name a few. Looking forward to the upcoming fall weddings! Cheers! This has been a crazy buzy month with lot's of request for small ceremonies before a destination wedding. From what I have been told the bride and groom need their marriage license to have a destination wedding. Anyway those have all been great! Have met some really wonderful couples. Another new thing for me is that I had a ceremony skyped to Russia! Really cool - the bride wanted her family to be able to participate in the wedding - what a wonderful idea. The most recent wedding threatened to be bad weather. I told the bride and groom it didn't matter - all would work out perfectly. We had a rehearsal in the pouring rain Friday night with the wedding scheduled for Sunday. Weather still didn't look very promising about a half hour before the wedding - but it wasn't raining anyway! The wedding party proceeded out to a little half island for the ceremony and just as I began - to tell all gathered there, how important it was to the bride and groom to have them all there, the sun broke through the clouds and we had the most amazing ceremony!
I love meeting people and hearing all of their unique stories. I believe we are all made up of everything we experience in our lives. I once read you meet people for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Some are here to teach you a valuable lesson in life, others come into your life and are so wonderful while they are here and then for no apparent reason they go out of your life and then there are the people that are here for a lifetime. We are all on a journey and every person you meet is part of that journey. Sometimes you may know that reason right away, with others you'll realize their purpose in your life at some future time. All are important. I have loved each and every wedding that I've officiated and all of the wonderful people that I have met through this.
